My senior design project was to expand the functions of an existing mobile robot, DaNI, provided by National Instruments through additional hardware and software components. We added an array of tools including robotic arm, line following IR sensor, and wireless hub, and generated AI routines in LabVIEW and MatLab to simulate warehouse environment tasks including location, navigation, and pick-n-place sorting.

My personal expertise was particularly useful to the project by:

  • calculating the kinematic operations of the robotic manipulator
  • developing, manufacturing, and assembling custom mounting rig
  • laying out and interfacing all the hardware to the mobile platform
  • designing and equipping the smart gripper
